Maestro: The Demon of Sacre Mere
a horror novel and radio play
The world's greatest minds gather in a village that doesn't exist, sent by the Vatican to find the truth.
Plague victims and a mysterious priest stand between the great Leonardo da VInci and the Demon of Sacre Mere...
...but can Leonardo even trust his friends when those friends are named Borgia and Machiavelli?
A novelisation of the radio play I wrote with Claire Bartlett.
Available 2024.
Notes:The first two horror radio plays we did for Imagination Theatre were based on the Hammer style of scares. For this one we took more inspiration from Roger Corman's atmospheric 1960s adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe's stories. In particular, The Masque of the Red Death was in my mind when we were putting this together. I described it to Claire as a "Renaissance X-Files" when I was pitching the idea to her. I wanted to do something with the great Leonardo, but he couldn't be the same as he was in the Da Vinci TV series, or the Leonardo who turned up on Star Trek: Voyager. I'm not sure why we got pulled in to doing a religion based story given that both Claire and I are atheists. I quite enjoyed this one, though.
